culture
Coley Curry is a dancer, creative, community organizer, and tita. Their work weaves storytelling, collage, improvisation, and film into expressions of connection and identity. Born in Chicago, IL, and currently living in Phoenix, AZ Coley draws inspiration from dreams, ancestry, the land, and the communities she loves and upholds.
With a commitment to justice and liberation, Coley uses her artistry to create spaces for healing, dialogue, and transformation. This is evident in her work as an educator, mentor, and artist advocate. She is currently a part of the dance faculty at multiple local colleges. Coley's somatic work and practices, developed through her studies with the Embodiment Institute and her current somatic certification training with Responsive Body, invite students and communities to connect deeply with their bodies and histories.
Coley’s impact extends through projects like withness, an evening-length interactive art space, and Mix Mix Tayo, a celebration of Filipino arts and culture. Her long-standing collaborations and creative partnerships have fueled projects such as a performance residency with Marguerite Hemmings at The Yard, where they explored emergent practices in dance and ideas of repair and reparations.
An active member of the Phoenix dance scene, Coley has performed in a range of spaces, from intimate backyard birthday celebrations with friends to massive stages, including dancing on the field during Rihanna’s Super Bowl halftime show. She is deeply passionate about witnessing and supporting other artists, finding joy in experiencing the work of her peers and celebrating their creative journeys.
Takela King is a dancer and choreographer based in Phoenix, Arizona. Her background in liturgical dance ignited an interest in dance used as a form of activism and fellowship. Her creative work combines research, written text, improvisational tools, contemporary choreography, and production elements to understand the human condition. In May of 2022, she graduated from Arizona State University, where she pursued and obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance and a Certificate in Ethics from the Herberger Institute of Design and the Arts as a Barrett Honors scholar.
Takela is a Permanent Artist in Residence with Nuebox, a Phoenix based non-profit and rehearsal space for BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ artists. During her time as a resident she has choreographed several works including her most current work, Before the Sigh After the Scream, a piece about ending, starting again, and crashing out in the process. Though humanly impossible to avoid the cyclical nature of existing, it is absolutely possible, and necessary, to give yourself and others the space to scream, sigh, and feel all the emotions that exist in between.
In addition to performing, Takela has stage-managed, designed lighting, and operated sound for numerous dance productions, including SpringDanceFest, Breaking Ground Dance Festival, Crying Over Spilled Onions, and Our Truth with the Pachanga Collective. As a freelance creative, she continues to perform and foster community connections through collaborations with Phoenix based nonprofits and choreographers

The company has been at the Maricopa County and AZ State Fair, Art in the Park Series for the City of Tempe, Las Vegas Super Congress, and Tijuana Dance Open, where the Ladies took 3rd place in their division.
